Friends
I have been to Cardiff for three days and stayed with some fantastic guys - Beth and T. They are so welcoming, fun to be with, loving and they feel just like home. They have painted their dining room the same colour as our lounge (such good taste!)
Thanx guys for such a fab time. You have the biggest mattress I have ever seen! You are such great friends. I’ll be back!
We went to a Dr Who exhibition while we were there. I can now rest in peace cos I have seen a real Darlek. In fact with all ugly monsters there it felt a little bit like a youth night!!!!!

Cinema’d out
Been to see two good films this week.
Becoming Jane- kinda thought at the beginning that it would be just like another period drama with the typical dress, dancing and talking. I did feel though that the film wasn’t a straight forward story with a happy ending and did convey a slightly different aspect of being a victorian spinster. It had a couple of interesting twists in the story. Anne Hathaway was definitely lush in the whole film!!
300- well, I hope most of you youth don’t see this one as it is a 15!! It is a bit gruesome for the sake of being macho rather than to enhance the story. The film frames are very artistic and the characters larger than life. There is a comic strip quality to it. I did enjoy it- but only for the action, not for the depth of the story or quality of the action. It was well worth going just to see 300 well formed six packs!!

Slavery
TODAY commemorates the 200th anniversary of the 1807 Abolition of the Slave Trade Act. This Act outlawed the slave trade throughout the British Empire and made it illegal for British ships to be involved in the trade, marking the beginning of the end for the transatlantic traffic in human beings.
It was a horrific practice in which millions died from cruel treatment and transportation conditions. You would think that in a modern society that there would be no more slaves but there are still at least 27 million of slaves around the world. They are held in brothels, in factories, as cleaners and other places. For more background information click here

Bolton Abbey
A group of us girlies wandered around Bolton Abbey today. it was pretty cold - but we survived. I think hot soup would have been better than packed lunches.
there is this section of the river where you can go over it on stepping stones (in the picture above). I got a quarter of the way and my dog wouldn’t let me go any further. She had decided the water was too deep and sat on the stone in front of me. It was so embarrassing. The queue of people behind us all had to turn around and go back!! In the deeper fast flowing part there was at least one stone missing. One man fell in - but resourceful Jenny and Tascha took a shoe and sock off stepped in the river in their bare feet and carried on. Good thinking!!

Bowling
Wow I had such a great time at bowling tonight. There were 50 of us and you know what I nearly beat the lot of you!! I was so excited at my 128 score and was just going to take the prize for the winner when I got beat by 2 points!! Thanks Sarah North for giving me a run for my money. It will have to be a rematch I think! Anyone want to go again?? I’ll see if I can get some photos for this blog off Jenny.

Were you aware that there is a new £20 note? Not that is often you get to hold a £20 note long enough to inspect the back of it!
It is a picture of Adam Smith.
Who on earth is Adam Smith?
He was an eighteenth century philosopher who was humanistic -(thinks you can find truth and morality in people without God). He is a Scottish accademic whose ideas brought about free trade after he wrote the book ‘The Wealth of Nations’
Question: Who is on the back of the old £20 notes?
