Your verses for today come from Romans 8:35-39 from the Message bible. Spend some time reading them over and over again, not just once. Say them out loud in different ways. Let the truth of it sink deep into your heart and change the way you live.

“Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:

   They kill us in cold blood because they hate you.
   We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one.
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.”

Have you noticed that nearly everything that God created moves. The earth rotates, the stars orbit, the trees bend towards the light, animals run, bacteria spreads,  the wind and water move and even the mountains will move if we tell them to. God never intended us to stay the same. Movement can be unerving as it brings change. Change of direction, pace, scenery, environment, friendships, diet, safety and familiarity.

We are not meant to only physically move - but to also be spiritually moving. If we are moving where are we heading? - closer to the heart of God. We are moving into the centre of his will, into the fulfilment of everything he has planned, into maturity and fullness of expression, into breaking out and doing the impossible, into drawing nearer to God and walking with him everyday.

Don’t settle - keep moving.

I was thinking about John Seargant last night as I was trying to remember all the steps to the samba dance I was learning last night in my ballroom dance class. I love dancing, but those who make it look easy are telling silent fibs.

What makes me giggle about John is that he stands up to values our society holds as imprortant and says enough is enough. How many people are entering competitions to win them (Xfactor, I’m a celebrity, Britain’s got talent….), how many are tussling to win over the public’s favour (Big brother, Strictly Come Dancing, Dancing on Ice…), how many want to become famous and put themselves forward? Not John Seargeant - he has stood against this tide and recognises that his popularity vote is not everything. He stands against all that others crave for and has clearly shown by his act of quitting that there is life more fulfilling outside reality tv!

Rather than pushing ourselves forward let us make sure that God is made famous.

Is it me - or is Autumn just gorgeous!!

   The latest news on the boys from the Steels is that Adam, Simon and Matt have now finished their Uni courses and are launching their band full time. Their lastest tour ‘Your Name In Lights’ is travelling around the UK after just having finished their tour in America. Try and get to one of their gigs - they are a great band. They will be with us here in Huddersfield this Friday (14th November).
