Joshua 1:2
Moses my servant is dead, now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan you and all the people, to the land which I am giving to them - the children of Israel.
Joshua begins his stepping out time. It is his reaching further and growing up time. He is beginning a journey into all that was promised to his forefathers. This is the end of life as he previously knew it. To boldly go where no Joshua has been before..
Moses was a fantastic leader - anointed and courageous. God did through him amazing miracles and set a whole nation free from its enemy. Can it be that the memory of it was so amazing that it stopped the people advancing . All the thoughts of what God had done, his rescue mission, his miraculous provision served only as food for nostalgia. Nostalgia can prevent people looking ahead to all the promises given by God. It can cause a settling in the heart rather than a remembering that causes a rise in faith and excitement. The people were thinking about and not acting, settling and not moving forward, focussing on the now and not the promises ahead.
Moses had to die for action to be taken. The past had to be seen as not sufficient for now so that the people would move on. The old blessings were thought to be all that God had for them and the people needed to understood that there was more.
We have been blessed with revelation about covenant, worship and moving in the power of the Spirit - but there is more. We have been set free, brought into new things and seen amazing miracles but there is more. The great leadership of today is not enough on its own for the present advance - it involves constant increase and growth. The life we live now is not the fullness of all the promises for us - there is more. Let us keep pressing on to THE FULLNESS of our inheritance and ALL that God has for us.
